The Redskins may have lost tonight 35-14 in Seattle today, but Joe Gibbs showed why he's in the hall of fame. Amidst all of the injuries and tragedy, Joe Gibbs pulled this team together for a remarkable season. During the NBC telecast today it was revealed that when asked if the Redskins had anything left for Seattle, Gibbs honestly answered he didn't know. The Skins have had four pseudo playoff games to finish the season just to make it into the post season.
An article in today's front page of the Washington Post by Mike Wise was quite insightful. It identifies and exposes more of Joe Gibbs from just and "X" and "O" type of coach to also one of motivation Washington Post - by Mike Wise . It articulates how Gibbs brought the team together and let them heal emotionally and instead of a play it one game at a time approach he shifted a philosophy to review the four teams that lay ahead on the schedule and even changed to practice schedule during the week to a walk through mid week from an intense practice so the team could heal physically.
Coaching with scabs, a strike shortened season, and even breaking in young quarterbacks pale in comparison to the accomplishment that Gibbs and this year's Redskins achieved. This has to be one of the best years of coaching and coaching through adversity. The staff was tested in just about every way possible this year. It was inspiring and provides optimism for next season.
