Capitals 1, Flyers 0
OK, regular readers might be confused. No, I am not the regular Caps commentator on this site, nor do I play one on TV. The above is not the final score, but the series standing right now. The Washington Capitals won the series opener, 5-4. The last of the NHL opening round series to start, the Caps started off fast, with Donald Brashear scoring just 3 minutes in.
The second period started off nearly as fast, with Steckel scoring 4 minutes in. But it then got ugly. Trailing 4-2 after allowing 3 unanswered goals by the Flyers in less than 5 minutes, it looked bad.
Mike Green, rocking his newly styled mowhawk, scored twice in the third to tie it up, 4-4. He came close to the natural hat trick, but it was stopped by Biron. But wait...we haven't heard from Alex the Great. No assists, no goals. But with less than 5 minutes left in the game, Ovechkin decided it was time to let the world know he had arrived in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Taking away the puck and the Flyers tried to move it out of their zone, he took it to the net, unassisted.
Wow, wow, wow! Let's hope this continues into Game 2 as the Sports Freak and I are attending the Sunday afternoon event.
LET'S GO CAPS!!!!
