Girls on Trampoline

Girls on trampoline? No, it's not the Man Show. With a blink of an eye a little known Olympic sport has come and gone. Trampoline makes an appearance every four years at the Olympics. I don't even recall it making a prime time appearance this time around around. It's difficult to fathom how trampoline is a medal sport and softball isn't.

Needless to say, I was somewhat looking forward to trampoline. I recall the first viewing of the 'sport'? The first competitor I saw was a tiny girl who bounced her way with such amplitude that the camera couldn't even keep her on the screen. The next woman tamplinIST, I'm assuming, was a bit larger in nature and had the look of someone much "hungrier" which was a disadvantage as the camera had no problem keeping its eye on her.

Comparison's can also be made to Nascar. As fans watch cars race by at top speeds, there's a small feeling that spectators are also looking for something spectacular like a crash. Watching trampoline with all it its air and high flying moves doesn't bring quite the reaction level of oohs and ahhs like someone flying high and off the screen because they jumped themselves off of the trampoline unexpectedly.

There are so many unique sports that don't receive air time or don't translate well on television like the NHL for casual sports fans (but is a great sport to see in person for any sports fan), but how many are just so silly and fun to watch. Of course trampoline isn't something that you'd pay to see or watch regularly, but once every four years it should get its due and its time. It's too bad that the Olympic committee can't find its way to having both a sport such as softball and something so extreme and unique like trampoline.
