Nationals Trade With Marlins

The Nationals acquired outfielder Josh Willingham and starting pitcher Scott Olsen from the Marlins in exchange for second baseman Emilio Bonifacio and minor leaguers Jake Smolinski (SS) and P.J. Dean (P) Nats Trade. Willingham (29) has battled injuries throughout his career and has topped the 20 homerun mark. Unlike more recent Nats starting pitchers, Olsen has made it through an entire season. He’s an innings work hog that should provide relief for an overworked bullpen.

We barely had a chance to get to know Bonifacio and his blazing speed. When he first arrived in town fans learned how much he was coveted by the scouting department within the organization and now he’s gone. There’s nothing wrong with wheeling and dealing and parlaying players for other players for an upgrade at various positions, but the Nats appear to be acquiring more players with a prior history of trouble in their past. Marlins Players. The Nats were already aware of Millidge and Dukes past, so adding Olsen who’s had a run in with his manager before should be old news, but at some time a team's young and developing players need skilled veterans and other young talent that they can look to lean on for help and advice otherwise potentially poor decisions could be made.

Now the Nats have another corner outfielder similar to the ones they already have on the roster. Another player looking to find himself that hasn’t quite delivered. The offseason shopping wish list included a top flight starting pitcher to anchor the rotation and a proven power hitter to toss into the middle of the lineup. The Nationals still need to find both and should continue searching especially to help improve and protect the rest of the rotation, bullpen, and middle of the lineup.

It's interesting how Bonifacio was tagged as the 2nd baseman of the future and now he's gone. Last year I questioned why we had any of these troublemakers. Now we've acquired yet another one. If he works as well as Milledge and Dukes, the Nats are in trouble. But what else is new?
