After a spirited performance the past few weeks, an injured Clinton Portis discusses his play during the Baltimore game as the string of losses continues Portis talks on 980. Apparently missing practice was brought up in a post game interview by Zorn. A candid Portis aired his thoughts on the John Thompson show.
Clinton refers to Fletcher missing practice and starting during the game without being benched. Zorn had replaced Portis with Betts who had practiced during the week. Clinton is as tough as they come. He plays when others may not have and never leaves a teammate down, which is evident as his pride was showcased in the interview.
A lack of communications between Zorn and Portis was also discussed. Longtime fans often recall Gibbs going with a change of pace pack to add a spark or inject new life into the offense. Nothing was working well against the Ravens. Zorn couldn't pull Campbell but he could give a more healthy back that had the reps in practice a fair shot to change the game. It didn't appear to be a knock on Clinton during the game, but the comments as they were stated clearly wounded the best player on offense and one of the team leaders.
Clinton's missed practices due to injuries are completely different from Iverson not attending practice. As a new head coach, Zorn must also learn how to communicate with one of the best players on his team that shares his passion for winning.
