Skins Say Seasons Greeatings to the Eagles With Victory for Skins Fans

The Redskins won a hard fought low scoring affair 10-3 and essentially made the way to the playoffs very difficult for the Eagles. The team demonstrated heart and toughness. It showed a team in support of the coaching staff as opposed to the first five games under Coach Marty where the players didn't buy into system or practice methods before pride kicked in after the ridicule in the media and late night shows.

Landry was everywhere on defense from helping stop the game tying touchdown at the end of the game with no time left on the clock to separating the ball from the Eagles Jackson with a jarring hit in the first half. Troy Aikman also brought up on TV the ability of Hall to step up into the play and make tackles along the line.

The defense made only one play on the final drive of the game from the Eagles and it mattered the most as the clock became everyone's friend but Eagles fans. The Eagles hopes of making the playoffs expired with a game ending play. Wow! What a way to send a rival home for the holidays. Nice!

There wasn't any mistaking the goal line call for the Skins. Portis received the ball and ran in for the touchdown. For the most part the punting part of special teams was good. It's disheartening to watch Zorn make the same mistakes game after game. Why does he insist on kicking field goals that his kicker can't make? Why does he then seem so easy to give up field position?

It was interesting to watch the game on TV as BMT & Q were there live. Pam Oliver interviewed Portis. He made some comments about his health when asked how he plays every week being so injured. He let Pam know he did it for his teammates. Howie Long picked up on a subtle line Portis said about being told by teammates that he looks ok walking and is he ready to play to which Howie basically said wow what does that say...you look ok walking so now go run the ball.

The encouraging signs of this game show the heart and desire of the team that Gibbs helped build. Zorn inherited a team that was reformed from where you were paid to where to play to win. The spirit and attitude of the team and coach seem like a great fit going into next year. There are obvious needs to address next year, but the foundation is there.
